Signs Your Patio Doors Need to Be Replaced

The patio doors in your home do not last forever. Regardless of whether you have sliding patio doors or doors that swing on hinges, there will come a time when they need to be replaced. Here are a few of the most common signs that your patio doors are nearing the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced:

●        The Doors Are Hard to Close

Are you having trouble closing your patio doors? If so, it’s probably time to have them replaced. If the doors are not sliding as they should or you find yourself having to slam swinging doors shut, the door, the track, or the door frame may have shifted.

When the outdoor temperatures are super warm or cold, the frames and tracks typically expand or contract. As this happens over and over, these materials may shift or slightly shrink. This can make it hard to shut the door.

●        The Glass Pane is Foggy

Have you noticed fog or condensation on the glass of your patio door? If so, that is a tell-tale sign that the glass needs to be replaced. In some cases, just the glass on your patio doors may need to be replaced. In other cases, when the glass wears, the entire frame and door needs to go.

The glass on your patio door is just like the glass on your windows. When condensation or fog builds up, it means that it has lost its ability to properly insulate. When this happens, it needs to be replaced.

●        You Can Feel a Breeze Around the Door

The last sign that your patio doors need to be replaced is if you can feel a breeze around your door. If you stand next to the door, and it feels like hot or cold air from outside is seeping through, the seal on the door may need to be replaced. If this does not solve the problem, the entire door may need to be replaced, as well. This helps to keep your energy expenses down and helps insulate your home.
